During the summer, a variety of different weather environments are thrown at you while you’re driving. Whether the rising sun is glaring across your windshield, or a monsoon-like storm pours down on you while you drive down I-575, making sure that your windshield is clean and clear is essential to your driving safety. A clean windshield is needed inside and outside of your car in order to see properly while your drive. There are a few simple ways that you can keep your windshield clean this summer and throughout the year.

For the Inside of Your Car Windshield

There’s nothing quite like driving when the collection of dust on inside of your windshield catches the sun. Another frustrating thing that can ruin your ability to see the road ahead is window fog on the inside of your windshield. Dust accumulates as we drive, which gets even worse as we roll our windows down during the summer to enjoy the beautiful weather. Here are a couple of ways you can keep the inside of your windshield safe.

  •  Wet down and clean your windshield with window cleaner to remove dust and dirt build up.
  • For foggy windows, Rain-X Anti-Fog for interior glass works great for preventing fogging. The pipes are small enough for you to keep a pack in your glove box or door panel too.
  • Wipe your windshield down once every 2-3 weeks to keep it clean and safe.

For the Outside of Your Windshield

The outside of your windshield is easier to get dirty since it is exposed to more, but it is also easier for a few quick clean ups in between your regular car washes. For example, you can easily activate your window washer fluid and wipers to clean off the bug collection sticking to your window after your trip to Florida this summer. Here are a few ways to fight the elements and keep your windshield safe.

  • Clean the windshield with your window cleaner. It might take one or two applications, or you can wet the windshield more generously the first time around to remove the dirt build up.
  • Use Rain-X glass treatment once your windshield is clean. You will notice a huge difference next time you’re caught driving in a storm. The rain repellent also works well as a shield against dirt and bugs. If some accumulates, it’s easy for you to quickly wipe it off.
  • Rain-X will last a few weeks, depending on how often you use your wipers. Give the exterior of your windshield a cleaning as needed, or about once or twice a month.

Keeping a clean windshield throughout the year can greatly improve your safe driving skills.
