How to Keep Pollen Off Your Car

One of many people’s least favorite aspects of spring (especially the allergy sufferers) is the pollen. Every year, Atlanta and its surrounding suburbs get a nice greenish-yellow blanket of dust. Unfortunately, you can’t eliminate pollen from landing on your car, unless you keep it locked away in a garage, so at some point, you’re going to have some of the green stuff on your vehicle.

A Good Car Wax

Waxing your car will actually help keep the pollen from sticking to your car as easily. Pollen may not look abrasive, but wiping it off the car or even leaning on a pollen-coated fender can cause scratches. The best bet is to start with a freshly washed car, and apply a good coat of wax. Then, you can just rinse the pollen off weekly, or more often if you like. And by keeping it off the outside, less is likely to end up inside where it can coat the interior of your vehicle.

Keep your Windows Closed – For Now

As much as you want to enjoy the beautiful spring temperatures that come along with the pollen, keeping your car windows closed, whether you’re in it or its parked, will help keep the green stuff on the outside, especially in the early morning from 5:00am to 10:00am. Those are prime times for pollen. Also, set your air conditioner to recirculate when possible instead of bringing in air from outside.

In a couple of weeks the Atlanta pollen shower should subside, letting people once again enjoy their convertible tops and windows. And remember, if your car needs a good cleaning or coat of wax, stop on by Towne Lake’s Carwash and Detail in Woodstock, GA or give us a call and we’ll shine it up and have you ready to cruise in no time.

Let’s Wash Out Cancer!

Towne Lake’s Carwash & Detail Teams up with PINK Heals Again!

A few months ago, back in 2011, Towne Lake’s Carwash & Detail teamed up with PINK Heals (Guardians of the Ribbon) to help raise awareness and raise funds to fight cancer.

Guardians of the Ribbon is an organization that supports women in their fight against cancer and inspire men to support the women of their community.  The Guardians of the Ribbon include firefighters, police officers, and community leaders.

If you made it out to the carwash last time, you may have noticed the pink firetruck, named “Gigi.”  The pink fire engine will be back out in front of the carwash, along with cancer awareness items for sale.

For every car washed at Towne Lake’s Carwash & Detail, a percentage of the money will be donated to The Guardians of the Ribbon.  We had an amazing turn out in October, and we would love to help this group again.

Come out on March 23rd & 24th to help us wash out cancer.

Friday & Saturday, March 23rd & 24th from 10am to 5pm at Towne Lake’s Carwash & Detail.

Wash Out Cancer

Are Carwashes Eco-Friendly?

Few people realize that washing our cars at home is not eco-friendly. (link) Unlike household waste water that enters sewers or septic systems and undergoes treatment before it is discharged into the environment, what runs off from your car goes right into storm drains – and eventually into rivers, streams, creeks and wetlands where it poses a serious threat to aquatic life. After all, that water contains large traces of gasoline, oil and residues from exhaust fumes – as well as the harsh detergents being used for the washing itself.

Commercial Car Washes Treat Waste Water

Federal laws in both the United States and Canada require commercial carwash facilities to drain their waste water into sewer systems, so it gets treated before it is discharged back into the great outdoors. And unlike a do-it-yourselfer, a commercial car wash is able to use computer-controlled systems, high-pressure nozzles and pumps that minimize water usage.

Did You Know?

The International Carwash Association, an industry group representing commercial car wash companies, reports that tunnel car washes use less than half the water of even the most careful home car washer. According to one report, washing a car at home typically uses between 80 and 140 gallons of water, while a commercial car wash averages less than 45 gallons per car. Talk about environmentally un-friendly!

The team here at Towne Lake’s Carwash and Detail in Woodstock, GA understands the importance of those numbers, and we understand that taking care of our surrounding community  is as important to others as it is to us.

Detail Your Car Before Selling It

car detailWell, it’s about to be 2012 and it might be time to trade your car in for a new set of wheels.  If you are the type of person who takes care of their car year round, you might not be worried about the trade-in value concerning how your car runs.  However, making a good first impression, especially when selling your car by yourself, can be a priceless move for getting top dollar for your car sale.

Some mechanical fixes before selling your car are worth it.  Some fixes will cost more than they are worth.  If you car is running well, then take a few extra dollars to make your car look its best before selling it.  When you bring it to a dealership to sell, the appraisers will look past crumbs and loose dirt.  They will, however, pay attention to wear and stains on carpets, upholstery and the rest of your interior.  A full car detail, before you sell your car to a dealership or by owner, is a great idea to make your car look its absolute best.  Not only will you attract buyers, but you could possibly remove any problems such as stains and small scratches from your paint job.

If you’re interested in getting your car detailed before selling it, contact Towne Lake’s Carwash and Detail in Woodstock, GA.

Tools to Keep in Your Car During the Winter

This past week, we have already encountered our first winter frost.  Many of you woke up to some sort of ice accumulation over your car windshields.  As the winter weather carries on, it is important to be prepared for all of the winter weather conditions ahead that might save a little hassle, save a few minutes, and keep you safe before you hit the roads ahead.

Here are a few ways that you can be prepared for the winter weather ahead:

  • Keep an ice scraper in your car:  If last year taught us anything, it’s that ice and snow can accumulate even while we are away at work.  Many people think that by pouring a hot cup of water over your windshield is a great way to get rid of the ice accumulated on your car.  In fact, this method can make matters worse for your car.  The water can refreeze over your windshield, or it could crack the glass on the car windshield.  Scraping the ice off of your windshield is a much better alternative than cracking your glass.
  • Spray Rain-X De-Icer on your car windshield:  Rain-X makes a great de-icer for your car that works by spraying it on and then running your windshield wipers to help decrease the amount of time you spend scraping the ice off of your car’s windshield.
  • Use Rain-X to prevent ice:  The original Rain-X formula is great at preventing ice and snow from accumulating on your car’s windshield.  It is a great first defense for your car.
After washing and waxing your car before the winter weather hits, using a few of these winter tools to keep your car windshield clear of ice will help you safely onto the road with less hassle than your average driver.

Washing for Wrestling at Towne Lake’s Carwash and Detail

River Ridge Wrestling This Saturday, on November 5th, Towne Lake’s Carwash and Detail in Woodstock, GA will be hosting a fundraiser for the River Ridge High School wrestling team.

Unfortunately, budget cuts have left the wrestling team without county funded aid for their wrestling mats.  The team is racing to round up the money needed in order to participate this season all on their own.  Although their situation looked daunting, it is a developing story of the truest form of team work which will most definitely play out on the new mats they hope to purchase.  The team, the parents, and the community have done an amazing job at coming together to help raise support for these young students so that they can wrestle this year.

Towne Lake’s Carwash and Detail is extremely pleased to be apart of this story, so we will be “Washing for Wrestling” this weekend in order to help raise money for this amazing group of parents and students.

Please come out to show your support this weekend by allowing us to wash your car.  We will be donating a portion of all sales on November 5th to the wrestling team.
