Prepping Your Car for Hurricane Season Safety

Traditionally, our culture considers the Spring season to be the wet and rainy months of the year.  Almost a year ago, we were preparing for monsoon type rains due to tropical storms and hurricanes.  Unlike the coast of Georgia, Woodstock, GA never gets hit with those hard winds from the storms.  We do however, end up with a whole lot of rain.

The majority of us are expected to get to work, regardless of the rain.  We have a put together a few tips for you to remember before the season hits.

  1. Tires:  Check the tread on your tires to see if they pose a risk for hydroplaning.  Simply put, the more shallow your tread, the longer water is allowed to stay beneath the tire.  Go over these steps in “Staying Safe in the Wet” from to check the safety of your tires.
  2. Windshield Treatment:  Nothing is worse than being caught in a storm with a dirty windshield.  You know what I’m talking about.  It’s oily, the water doesn’t quite slush off from the wiper blades like they should, and it just sits on your windshield.  That’s exactly why we use Rain-X for many of our carwash and detail services.  If you have ever driven in the rain after having Rain-X applied, you would agree that it dramatically improves your visibility when driving in the rain.
  3. Brakes:  According to Edmunds, the first few hours of a storm can be the most dangerous due to engine oil build up on the roads.  The oil mixed with the rain creates very slick driving conditions.  We recommend breaking sooner, with less force than you would usually do in dry weather conditions.

Have you ever had a close call in wet weather conditions?  Leave a comment and let us know what helped!

Why It Is Important to Wash Your Car in the Summer

Keeping Your Car Clean in Towne LakeWhen I learned how to drive, my father taught me some very important tips about taking care of my car.  He taught me how to change a tire, check my oil, and a few of the other basics.  When he handed over the keys to my hand-me-down car (anything with four wheels is amazing, especially when you’re 16,) he handed me a prepaid carwash tickets for our local service where I grew up.  After he handed them over, he mentioned how important it was to protect your investment.  Of course, at 16, I didn’t realize that a car was a major investment.  It wasn’t until I bought a car that actually had a price tag on it, that I realized that a car deserves as much care on the outside as it does on the inside.
